The WH2200iXLT inverter generator by Westinghouse is a lightweight model that’s easy to use, highly portable, and designed to last. Considered one of the most reliable models on the market, this generator is a steal for the price.

Our Verdict: This is one of Westinghouse’s top selling models. It’s also one of their quietest inverter generators to date. This model is fuel efficient, easy to use, and offers a better than average run time. However, there have been reports of issues with the generator’s fuel cut off valve. Fortunately, this issue is covered under the warranty.

Bottom line, this is a great, powerful, compact generator that offers a solid performance, aside from the rare fuel cut off valve which isn’t a common problem. Click here to see if it’s still available…

Read on to learn more about this leading inverter generator by Westinghouse.

Overview and Features

Westinghouse has been a household name for decades, producing a wide range of electronics and appliances ranging from hot water systems and TVs, to monitors and generators. Their extensive line of generators are popular for many reasons. Aside from their lower pricing the generators are also very dependable and powerful and have a reputation for lasting several years, with proper care and maintenance.

It’s clear that Westinghouse is dominating the market with their reasonably priced generators that offer a higher than average wattage and a longer run time to boot. But not only do these generators have a solid reputation in the power department, they’re also known for their durability and reliability, which is exactly what you want and need in a generator that you’ll be taking with you on your next RV adventure or camping trip.

These lightweight models also come loaded with some great safety features that will give any camper or RV user a little peace of mind, especially if you plan on using your generator throughout the night.

This model has a power rating of eighteen hundred watts, with a peak power rating of twenty-two hundred watts, which is pretty impressive. The generator itself weighs just forty-three pounds, which is surprising considering its power rating. It also comes equipped with two one-hundred-and-twenty-volt amp outlets.

If this is simply too much power for your camping needs, you can click here to read our generator buyer’s guide which includes a wide range of the leading models of camping generators that are available in a variety of power ratings.

This model also comes with a low oil shutoff feature that automatically switches the generator off when a low oil level has been detected. This is a great safety feature to have because it can prevent the generator from overheating, causing serious damage or it can even fry the motor. This feature can prevents users from having to closely monitor the oil level, which will come in handy if you want to run the generator during the night.

Unfortunately, not all models come equipped with this important safety feature.

Internal Fuel Cut Off Valve

There have been some reports that problems have occurred due to a faulty internal fuel cut off valve. This isn’t a common issue and it has been attributed to a manufacturing defect. Fortunately, if you run into this issue it’s covered under the product warranty.

Start Options

The generator has an electric start and a pull start. If the alternator doesn’t charge the battery, you’ll still be able to pull start it, which is a nice plus. However, if this becomes an ongoing issue, you’ll need to have the generator serviced because this can indicate an underlying problem with the alternator or the battery. If you rarely use the generator, you should run it once a month in order to prevent this issue and to keep the generator running smoothly.

Parallel Operation

[ichcpt id=”51″]

Parallel operation allows users to connect an inverter generator with another compatible generator, usually the same model or brand. However, many generators can hook up to a model with a similar power rating. Parallel operation can be a huge selling point for users, unfortunately, not every generator will allow for parallel operation. This is done to essentially enjoy more power using smaller generators in order to avoid a loud gas-powered generator.

Fortunately, this model has been approved for parallel operation, so you can enjoy twice the power and run time. If you have a lot of gear to power then a generator that allows parallel operation is a must. This type of power potential is perfect if you want to run a variety of electronics at the same time, or if you need enough power to run an AC in your RV.

When run with the best RV solar panel system, you can add even more power to your setup. This combination is ideal if you’re traveling in an RV and need more power to operate an AC or large TV.

The generator comes with free lifetime technical support and a three-year product warranty. It’s also rated as CARB and EPA compliant. This type of extensive warranty will give buyers some much-needed peace of mind knowing the generator is covered should they run into any issues with performance. Often, models in this price range only come with a twelve-month warranty, so this generator’s three year coverage is very impressive.

This model is equipped with a tank that’s just a little over one gallon. Unfortunately, the manufacturer doesn’t produce a natural gas conversion kit for this model, but some users have reported that they were able to make their own conversion using a universal kit. The gallon size tank is pretty standard for a generator of this size and power rating.

When in use, never let this model run out of gas, otherwise it will add plenty of unnecessary wear and tear that can significantly shorten the lifespan of this model. Additionally, doing so can also void the manufacturer warranty.

This generator should never be stored with gas in it. Doing so can increase the chances of mechanical failure later down the line. If the generator won’t start up after it has been in storage for several months, drain the carburetor and tank, then add new fuel and try to restart it. If the generator still fails to start you may need to have it serviced. In order to avoid this problem, always drain the gas before you store it. You can also add fuel stabilizer to the fuel before you store it, if you don’t want to drain the gas, to keep the carb clean.

This generator’s maintenance and care needs are pretty minimal, compared to a large gas-powered generator. With proper care and maintenance you can expect this generator to easily last season after season.

This model is quiet running and fuel efficient. In terms of noise output, it comes in at just fifty-two decibels and has a runtime of thirteen hours, making it the perfect model if you’re searching for a generator that can last throughout the night without needing a fill up. In fact, it easily outperforms the Generac 7117 GP2200i 2200-watt Portable Inverter Generator which offers the same wattage, but only ten and a half hours of runtime, and it comes with a higher price tag.

While all inverter generators are deemed quiet running, especially compared to conventional generators, this model is said to provide an even more impressive performance. During operation, the generator is best described as whisper quiet.

Like most models, it produces power using less than three percent total harmonic distortion. This makes it safe to use with delicate electronics including smartphones and laptops. However, you’ll have to switch the load circuit breakers on one at a time, waiting for approximately five seconds between them, otherwise line frequency changes will occur. This change in frequency can lead to damage.

Many models camp generators are parallel approved. This particular model can be connected to another inverter generator using a Westinghouse brand parallel cable. When paralleled with another generator you’re looking at thirty-six hundred watts of power, which should be more than enough to cover any type of appliance or device you want to use on a camping trip or in an RV.
